Attention Hotel Managers:
The Connecticut SAFE KIDS and Fairfield County SAFE KIDS
Coalitions would like to enlist your help in keeping the children
who stay at your establishment safe. Many hotel/motels offer
portable cribs for the convenience of their guests. However, these
same items hold the potential for injury and even death. MANY
CRIBS IN USE TODAY DO NOT MEET CURRENTLY SAFETY STANDARDS, HAVE NOT
BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED OR HAVE BEEN RECALLED.
This issue of hotel crib safety has been the subject of several
meetings of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). In
September a CPSC Chairman’s Roundtable was held to discuss the
actions that hotels and motels can take to keep children safe in
cribs. This is a nation wide problem, and together we can be on the
forefront of protecting children when they travel.
Please take the time to review the crib safety information below
and complete the checklists for your products. Each inspection
should take less than five minutes, time that could save a child
from injury or death. Even if you find your products to be safe, you
should be aware of recalls, do periodic rechecks for continuous
safety and quality. IF YOU FIND YOUR PRODUCT IS RECALLED contact the
manufacture for further information. IF YOU FIND THE PRODUCT does
not meet safety standards, contact Connecticut SAFE KIDS at
860.545.9988 or Fairfield County SAFE KIDS at 203.325.7115.
We appreciate your assistance in keeping America's children and
visitors safe.
