The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in the country. Since its inception in 1868, the Order of Elks has grown to include nearly 1.2 million men and women in almost 2,200 communities.
The Connecticut Elks Association has proudly sponsored Safe Kids Connecticut since 1999. The organization is dedicated to the principles of charity, justice, patriotism and fraternity. Since 1999, the men and women of the Elks has donated over $1,200,000 in funding to the Safe Kids Connecticut Program. Throughout the past 61 years, the Connecticut Elks Association has raised over $4,398,000 to support Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The funds are raised through various charity events such as golf tournaments, benefit concerts and bowling tournaments.
Each year, members of the Connecticut Elks Association work with local Safe Kids coalitions to host safety events at schools, churches, Fire Departments, Police Departments and elsewhere.
Through the Elks Materials Request, each Safe Kids Coalition can receive up to 30 car seats, 100 smoke alarms, 40 carbon monoxide detectors and 100 bike helmets each year. Between May 2013 and May 2014 the organization provided over 265 bike helmets, 121 car seats, 325 smoke detectors and 140 CO detectors to families in Connecticut through Safe Kids events.
